Lionel "Leo" Messi was born in 24th June 1987 and an Argentine footballer who currently plays for FC Barcelona in Spain. Messi is the captain of his country, Argentina and mainly plays as a striker.
Messi playing style has been likened to Diego Maradona, who is considered one of the best players of all time, but Messi is on track to become perhaps even greater than his compatriot. Maradona also said Messi as his 'successor' in 2006 and the young Argentine has reaffirmed this early forecasts reaching the summit of world football.
Messi has already received two Golden Ball awards (2009 and 2010) and is in line to receive his third year in a row, a feat only achieved before by Michael Platini.
Leo has been recognized to play football at a high level at a young age, his talents are obvious to those around him. He was always regarded as one of the most skilled and effective player in his youth, but there were concerns about his height and physicality. Playing for Newell's Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina, Messi has Barcelona in 2000, the need for treatment with growth hormone to move forward in his career he would pay snapped offered. Newell 's could not afford the treatment, so Leo's family agreed that a move to Europe was the best decision for the youngster's promising career.

Messi had a phenomenal season in 2008-2009, which his club to an unprecedented height, one of the greatest moments in the history of the club, notching 38 goals. Messi mark surpassed the following season with 47 goals, the same legend Ronaldo in the late '90s. Messi's performance in 2010-2011 was even better, scoring 53 goals, the same tally as Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo happy.
So far, Messi has five La Liga titles and three Champions League title, his most important awards (as a team) gathered for the club. Messi was also mainly the top scorer in the Champions League season 2010-2011, which was the third consecutive year he was top scorer of the competition was.
At the international level, Messi came to the fore at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, where he emerged as a phenomenon. He scored five goals in the tournament, and soon broke into the senior team. In 2006 he was the first team, and picked up a runner-up medal at the 2007 Copa America tournament. Messi won the gold medal for Argentina at the Olympic Games in 2008 and was the tournament of the stand-out players. To date, Messi has scored 18 goals in 64 appearances for his country.
